In this episode, I’m chatting with Plugola, a Chicago based social network and marketplace for indie music artists and their fans.
If you can’t see the video, please click here. The music featured during the intro and credits of this episode is a song called “Sailing Out to Sea” from local Chicago band Grey Shore Avenue.
Here are some highlights from my chat with Plugola founder Erik Peterson:
- Music fans today really want to be involved with their favorite musicians. They want to interact with them and get to know them on a more personal level. As a result, these fans will buy those musicians’ music and help promote them.
- Plugola allows fans to buy songs from their favorite bands, resell the songs to their friends, and make a commission. Musician’s can set the commission rate.
- Getting on iTunes can be tough for independent bands and musicians. Plugola seeks to provide an alternative way for these bands and musicians to get their music heard.
- Digital albums provide a way for the music industry to restore the value that used to exist with CD sales.
