In this episode, I’m chatting with the folks at Long Pork, a sketch comedy group in Chicago that creates high energy landscapes of ultra-violent comic joy.

Here’s some highlights from my chat with Long Pork:
- Sketch comedy usually involves a show comprised of sketches, or skits. This type of comedy has been popularized by Saturday Night Live, Kids in the Hall, Monty Python, and others.
- Long Pork shows don’t have any blackouts between the scenes. Blackouts are when the lights go down between sketches so the performers can prepare for the next sketch. Instead, Long Pork purposely keeps the lights on to keep the show flowing uninterrupted and to keep the audience entertained.
- The order of the sketches in a comedy show is very important. The order prepares the audience for the adventure they’re going to experience during the show.
- Being on stage and making people laugh is exhilarating for the gentleman of Long Pork.
- Unlike drama, comedy allows for immediate feedback for the performers.
Long Pork is opening for Harold Ramis in Chicago on Saturday, March 20th at 7:30 pm. You can buy tickets at Brown Paper Tickets and use discount code ‘longpork’ for a discount!
